2K Recruits Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

The renowned publisher has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the development team at their internal studio, which is currently working on the upcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Follows Poor Feedback

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster early showing last fall.

Recently, 2K president a key figure updated staff about this decision through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the requirement for a distinct game identity.

Ismailer stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed approach, aiming to better meet player expectations.

Trend of Key Hires

The news follows a comparable action taken by the publisher in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.

Below is the complete text from the president's memo:

Dear Team—

I understand you all just finished your gathering - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a note, I stated the following: “I believe in this team. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to endure.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a clearer brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the feedback to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed vision - one that’s poised to fulfill its promise to our fans.

Our confidence in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Lead of the team. Following a period of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.

Ben’s guidance and background in the PVP shooter space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, Apex Legends.

Let’s together in receiving Ben next week. We are all looking forward to persist witnessing the evolution of the game in the weeks to ahead.

David

He earlier was employed at Treyarch and Activision in diverse development positions on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had stints at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Game Information and Concept

The upcoming game was revealed in last year alongside a public demo. Then, the developers portrayed the title as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an thrilling evolution on the style."

"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch explains. "Challenge the competition with new abilities, challenges, and tests that evolve every round. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and pray your group can earn top ranking? The option is in your hands."

Project Ethos does not have an announced launch window or consoles, but fans can look forward to additional details as production continues.
